It is very important to us that in the event of our residents being inpatients in our nursing ward they are well looked after and feel at home. Here especially, a high quality of life and self-determination are absolutely essential. This is why a cosy and friendly nursing ward and particularly attentive, professional and loving nursing care form the basis of our full inpatient nursing services.
Working like being home An interview with Rebeca Benitez, a nurse who has been working in the Kursana Residence since 2003. She learnt her profession in the Kursana and has been important for the nursing team since then.
At the Residence, we adjust to the wishes of the residents to quote Rebeca and not to a rigorous timetable. This only works with a team of staff who supports each other, added Rebecca. It is obvious she feels very comfortable in the family like surroundings of the Kursana Residence.
The work will vary day to day. Rebeca recounts how she boosted the self-esteem of one of her underweight patient. “The resident was very upset that her clothes were not fitting her too well. I found out what her favorite food was and together with the kitchen staff we devised a calorie rich menu for the resident. Within a month she gained 5 kilos.” Another example of the special hands on treatment of a resident, is demonstrated when Rebecca exercised with a partially paralyzed patient until she was able to raise one of her arms up to her throat.
Rebecca Benitez expresses her engagement at the Residence: “We work with our hearts, look after the elderly like we would with our grandparents, discuss problems with them and comfort them.”
